HighBall Intro: re*dress Columbus

posted by Dawn

We’re Angela and Cara with re*dress, your personal shoppers and wardrobe consultants in Columbus, Ohio.  We’ll shop for you for any occasion, or if the economy has you feeling down, we’ll help you clean-up your closet and make it feel new again without stepping foot in a store.  Check out our website at www.redresscolumbus.com.

This week we’ve taken on another challenge - we’re helping coordinate the runway show for HighBall Halloween.  Although we’ve both been involved in the retail industry for years and have attended many runway shows, actually coordinating one is a new experience for us!  And believe us, there is a LOT to coordinate.  After our initial meeting, we hit the ground running: we contacted Dan to discuss the backdrop screen for the runway show (should we project designer names? or images?), we’re in touch with DJ Moxy to discuss the music for the show, and we’re talking to Ryan to find out what designers are committed to the show and how many looks they have going down the runway.  We’re working with the Phia Salon to coordinate times for the models and designers to come in and create hair styles for the models. And don’t forget the make-up!  50 models, 12 designers, 8 hair stylists, 8 make-up artists, countless AV and tech helpers, a DJ and an emcee put on a show that looks effortless and can rival the shows at Fashion Week.  See you on tomorrow!

HighBall Intro: Ryan Morgan

posted by Dawn

Ryan MorganRyan is not your father’s insurance agent unless your dad is Dennis Lynch. Nope, he’s an insurance agent with a wild side and his business (the aptly named brilliant) is dedicated to helping local businesses (especially creative businesses) make their dreams a reality. To that end he’s helped good folks like element marketing agency, Skreened (with whom he shares office space), Luck Bros. Coffee and Wholly Craft ply their wares and services. Recently he helped Little Alouette get their handmade goods into nationwide retailers Whole Foods. See what we mean about that whole dreams/reality thing? Naturally when it came to find a super multitasker who is also creatively connected, it made sense to hit Ryan up. And boy has he come through! Besides PR/marketing and sponsorship, he’s worked hard to find the 11 designers we have lined up for the Costume Couture showdown, including Kelli Martin and Terri Stevens.

Short North launching Halloween Masquerade Party… on High Street

posted by shortnorth

Now that Art al Fresco has made a successful debut, the Short North is turning its focus to the next big thing… HighBall Halloween: A Masquerade Party on High Street. On Wednesday, Sept. 10 we’ll unveil the full details during the event launch at Skully’s Music Diner, but right now the development committee is debating some of the key aspects. Charly Bauer (Jeni’s Ice Creams) wants to see “fabulous” costumes at every turn and an outrageous diva-emcee like Nina West. Dawn Friedman agrees that the “wow factor” should be off the chart if it’s going to be worthy of Short North status, but thinks there has to be a twist to the event. Ryan Morgan thinks inviting Columbus’ couture fashion designers to create original costumes for a Project Runway-style fashion showdown would get juices flowing. Walker Evans wants to see high-profile prizes for the best, most creative, and most outrageous costumes. The next meeting, tomorrow afternoon, will iron out the details.

There are also many logistics questions to answer by Wednesday. What part of High Street will we close for the masquerade? Should we have bands or DJs? Dancing or parades? Beer or wine!? Who gets to be the Joker!?

More to come…
